UP Govt Mandates Prior Permission For Taking Out Religious Processions

Mumbai: Following incidents of communal violence across the country during Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, the Uttar Pradesh government has mandated prior permission for taking out religious processions across the state.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister’s Office said that before taking permission, the organizers will have to give an affidavit to ensure peace and harmony.

“Permission should be given to only those religious processions, which are traditional, new events should not be given unnecessary permission,” it said further.

However, installation and use of microphones are permitted but subject to the condition that the sound of the microphone should not cross the premises causing inconvenience to others.

The decision was taken in a review meeting held by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with police officials to review the law and order situation in the state.

“There are many important religious festivals in the coming days. The festival of Eid and Akshaya Tritiya is likely to be on the same day. In such a situation, given the current environment, the police will have to be extra sensitive.”

Also, the leave of all police and administrative officers has been cancelled till May 4 and those who are already on leave have been asked to join within the next 24 hours.

“Leave off all administrative/police officers ranging from SHO, CO and Police Captain to District Magistrate Divisional Commissioner will be cancelled with immediate effect. Who are currently on leave, return to the place of posting within the next 24 hours,” Adityanath said.

“Tehsildar, SDM, SHO or CO etc. should all take a rest in the area of their posting. If you have government accommodation then stay there or take a rented accommodation, but stay in your own area at night. Strict compliance of this arrangement should be ensured,” he added.

The CM also said to increase the deployment of the police force in sensitive areas and to monitor the situation using drones. “Every day in the evening the police force must do foot patrolling. PRV 112 be active,” he added.
