I Knew In My Mind I Had To Take Wickets To Change Game: Chahal On Hat-Trick

Mumbai: RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal said he knew he had to take wickets in the 17th overs against KKR to change the momentum of the game.

Jos Buttler’s 103, his second of the season, and Chahal’s five wickets, including a hat-trick, propelled Rajasthan Royals to a thrilling seven-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Brabourne Stadium here.

“I had to take wickets to change the result in this match. I worked on my bowling. I talked to the coaches and the captain. I was thinking of a googly but then I didn’t want to take a chance. Would have been happy with a dot ball as well on my hat-trick ball. My googly was coming out well and sent it down to Venkatesh Iyer,” said Chahal in a post-match presentation.

The match was a cliff-hanger where the pendulum shifted from team to team as Kolkata Knight Riders reached a triple-figure in just 8.3 overs with Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch batting at the crease. But the wickets of Chahal, Ashwin and the famous Krishna brought the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals back into the game.

Ashwin took only one wicket, but he got the prized scalp of the dangerous Andre Russell leg before wicket for a golden duck.

Obed McCoy bowled the final over of the match, with KKR needing 11 runs and two wickets in hand, but the left-arm pacer dismissed Sheldon Jackson and Umesh Yadav to give Rajasthan their fourth win of the season.
