UP Govt To Promote As Global Centre For Religious Tourism

UP: The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to promote Prayagraj as a global centre for religious tourism, a Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) official said. As part of the plan, a number of infrastructural and developmental projects would be completed before the 2025 Maha Kumbh.

The consultant would present a blueprint of the master plan, identifying projects for augmenting the socio-economic base of the city. The project will generate employment for the local people through tourism and pilgrimage PDA superintending engineer, Rohit Khanna said.

Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) is planning to unveil ‘Integrated Infrastructure Development Plan’ and ‘Integrated Tourism Master Plan’ for the district. It also intends to take forward riverside development, including the development of ghats in the confluence area along the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, an official said.

To develop an area of ​​769.60 sq km under PDA, the authorities have started the process of appointing a consultant to prepare the vision plan and the officials of the PDA have already issued a Request for Request (RFP) for the same.

PDA’s superintending engineer Rohit Khanna said the consultant will prepare the master plan, identify projects to enhance the socio-economic base of the city and generate employment for the local population through tourism, pilgrimage and other activities.

Some of the important projects include development of 12 Madhav Circuit, up-gradation of Sangam area including river cleaning and dredging, riverfront and ghat development in Sangam area, ropeway connecting Qila Ghat, Triveni Pushp and Saccha Baba Ghat, land development along ring road (beside Yamuna), restoration of water bodies of mythological and religious importance etc.

“Development of integrated tourism master plan is aimed at developing Prayagraj as ‘Teertharaj- a global tourist destination,” informed a PDA official associated with the project.

“Prayagraj is planned to be developed as an international tourism hub while maintaining the regional cultural heritage and customs, including the prestigious Kumbh and Magh Melas. The mega plan will be prepared in such a way that it will envision the possibilities of developing a religious tourism circuit in association with Varanasi, Ayodhya, Kaushambi, Gorakhpur, Shringaverapuram etc.

PDA also wants to prepare a blueprint of the regional transport infrastructure augmentation. “The consultant would suggest the projects that need to be developed for augmenting transportation, road, rail and air linkages for improvement in accessibility perspective,” officials said.
