Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Bans Migrant Workers Returning To State On Foot

Mumbai: Following the increase in Coronavirus cases, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday ordered his officials not to allow any migrant laborer traveling on foot to enter the state.

He also said that the state government is actively engaged to bring the migrants back to their homes safely.

A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said, “The Chief Minister has issued clear instructions to the officials to ensure that no migrant workers return to the state on foot. He assured that the state government has been actively engaged in bringing them back safely.”

The order has come in view of the alarming increase in COVID-19 cases and while the state governments are trying to take precautions to bring back the stranded people and those trapped in the state, migrant workers try to reach their hometown on foot.

The Uttar Pradesh government has safely brought back more than 5 lakh migrants from other states and is expecting another two lakh migrants after the center started the special train last week.

Earlier in the day, at least 17 migrant laborers were killed when a freight train was parked on railway tracks in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.
