Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat Resigns

Mumbai: Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday tendered his resignation to the state’s Governor Baby Rani Maurya at Raj Bhawan in Dehradun.

Rawat met Governor Baby Rani Maurya at around 4 pm today and submitted his resignation.

Reports said that some BJP MLAs from Uttarakhand are unhappy with the Chief Minister’s style of functioning and want a change of leadership.

Taking stock of the issue, BJP sent two central leaders, BJP Vice President Raman Singh and General Secretary Dushyant Singh Gautam, to Uttarakhand to take stock of the situation. Singh and Gautam submitted their report to party president Nadda on their return from the state.

“I have submitted my resignation to the Governor as CM today. The party gave me a golden opportunity to serve this state for four years. I never thought that I would get such an opportunity. The party has now decided that the opportunity to serve as CM should be given to someone else now. Nine days are left for the completion of four years of my government,” he said.

Rawat met Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda on Monday late amid speculation of a leadership change in the state. BJP in-charge of Uttarakhand Dushyant Kumar Gautam aroused speculation of change of leadership in the state on the very first day.

“He (Rawat) is doing good work. There is no allegation of corruption against him. It is not good to raise questions on his working style”, Gautam had said.
