Varun Gandhi Writes To PM Modi; Make Law On MSP & Other Farmers Issue

Demanding immediate action against the Union Minister, he called the Lakhimpur violence a "blemish on our democracy"

Mumbai: BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that an immediate decision should also be taken on the minimum support price so that farmers can return to their homes.

“I welcome the announcement of the withdrawal of the 3 farm laws. It is my humble request that the demand for a law on MSP and other issues must also be decided upon immediately, so our farmers can return home after ending their agitation,” the letter read.

He has also demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore each for all 700 farmers killed in the farmers’ agitation so that the families of the victims can live their lives easier.

“More than 700 of our farmer brothers and sisters have been martyred in this movement as they have peacefully protested in extremely difficult and hostile conditions. I believe that if this decision had been taken earlier all these innocent lives would not have been lost,” Varun Gandhi said.

“It is my humble request to you that while expressing condolences to the families of our farmer brothers and sisters who are martyred in the movement, compensation of Rs 1 crore each is announced for them,” he added.

In a tweet a day after the Prime Minister announced the withdrawal of all three agricultural laws, Varun Gandhi said that the farmers of the country continued the agitation peacefully in the face of heavy rains, storms and adverse weather.

Demanding immediate action against the Union Minister in the Lakhimpur violence case, he has called the incident a “blemish on our democracy”.

“Many leaders sitting in senior positions have given provocative statements against our agitating farmers. It is the result of such statements and the adversarial atmosphere created around the movement, that on October 3, five of our farmer brothers were crushed to death by vehicles in Lakhimpur Kheri. This heartbreaking incident is a blemish on our democracy.”

Eight people, including farmers, were killed in the violence that occurred in Lakhimpur on October 3. Ashish, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, is among the 13 arrested in connection with the deaths. All the victims were mowed down by a convoy of three vehicles, including a Mahindra Thar SUV owned by Ajay Mishra.
