Violence In Bengal Be Probed By CBI: BJP’s Gaurav Bhatia Moves SC

Mumbai: Senior BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia has moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged rampant violence by Trinamool Congress workers across West Bengal before, during and after the state Assembly polls.

Bhatia, a senior advocate, in his intervention application filed in the pending 2018 PIL, has directed the state government to file a detailed status report regarding the FIRs lodged, arrests and the steps taken against the perpetrators of the violence.

“The instant application is being preferred…to bring to the notice of this court, the brutal murders and commission of serious crimes like rape and molestation, blatant violence and the complete breakdown of law and order machinery in West Bengal before, during and after the recently concluded assembly elections in the state,” Bhatia said in his plea.

In the third consecutive victory in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress won 213 seats in the Assembly Elections, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

The BJP managed to bag 77 seats in the 294-seat state assembly. Banerjee will be taking oath as the state CM for the third consecutive term on Wednesday.
