Virat Kohli Describes Himself As ‘Happy Man’ After Completing 13 Years Of International Career

Virat Kohli has 70 international centuries to his name with more than 20000 runs across Test, ODI, and T20 cricket

Mumbai: Indian skipper Virat Kohli has described himself as a ‘happy man’ on had the opportunity to represent India for 13 years. The batter called his career at the highest level an ‘unbelievable’ and a ride full of ‘amazing moments and memories.’

Kohli made his debut in 2008, and since then has been a regular member of the Indian side in all three formats. He has firmly established himself as one of the greatest batters in the history of the games.

Virat Kohli has 70 international centuries to his name with more than 20000 runs across Test, ODI, and T20 cricket.

In a video posted by ICC, Kohli said, “13 years down the line, firstly I could not have imagined I would come this far. It’s been unbelievable and a ride full of amazing memories and amazing moments, just the pride to play for India, getting to play so many games for India. ”

He added, “For me, that’s the been the special thing and the focal point of my career that I want to win find ways to win a game of cricket from any place and I will do absolutely everything to be able to do that.”

The batter further said that he has always played for the team and scored runs.

“As a batter when I step on the field my first job is to literally perform for the team and score runs. If you don’t, the game can get away from you very quickly as well. If I have the opportunity and form on my side, I will definitely want to make it count.”

“At this moment, I am in a very happy and content space in terms of the journey of my career. I am very happy sitting here 13 years later,” added the Indian captain.

India’s limited-overs Vice-captain Rohit Sharma also lauded the Indian skipper for improving as a cricketer every year since his debut.

Rohit said, “His Hunger for success is unbelievable. It is not easy to go out there and do it consistently which he has done so well. When he came in 2008 and evolved as a cricketer since. He has added a little cent to his game and evolved every year and all those years as I see he has put his best foot forward.”

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has also praised him for his ability to succeed in all three formats of the game.

“Virat is someone who genuinely plays T20 cricket the way it should be played, ODI cricket the way it should be played, and so with Test cricket. The reason is he doesn’t change much and has similar shots and similar game plans in all formats,” said Ashwin.

Kohli’s IPL team-mate Glenn Maxwell also had encouraging words to say about his captain in the recently concluded edition of the cash-rich league.

The Australian all-rounder said, “Watching him close-up, watching him train, he is competitive and so driven, you can understand why he is as good as he is. You can understand why he is as good as he is the amount of work he puts into his game and the amount of determination he has to get better and better.”

Virat Kohli will be stepping down from his position as the captain for India’s limited-overs after the T20 World Cup.
