We Appreciate The ‘Gesture’ Of PM Modi: SriLankan Sports Minister At Kushinagar International Airport

Mumbai: Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa was present at the inaugural of Kushinagar International Airport and he appreciated PM Modi’s ‘gesture’ for inviting Sri Lankan airlines to be the first international carrier at Kushinagar airport.

“It (Kushinagar International Airport) is a great gesture of PM Modi and especially inviting SriLankan airlines to be the first international carrier to land at Kushinagar International Airport,” said Sri Lankan Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa

A flight from Colombo (Sri Lanka) landed at Kushinagar International airport, carrying a Sri Lankan delegation of over a hundred Buddhist monks and dignitaries.

The Sports Minister also emphasized the connectivity of Buddhism and Hinduism and said that this initiative will strengthen the relationship between the two.

“One of the greatest gifts Sri Lankan got from India is Buddhism. Hinduism and Buddhism have co-existed. This deep-rooted relationship will further strengthen” said Sri Lankan Sports Minister.

The Kushinagar International Airport project is estimated to be Rs.260 crore. The inauguration was attended by Monks from Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea, Nepal, Bhutan, and Cambodia and ambassadors of various countries.

The airport will facilitate pilgrimage to Lord Buddha’s Mahaparinirvan that of lord Buddha, thereby boosting the economy of the region.
