Wear Hijab In Madrassas, Not In Educational Institutions: Pragya Thakur

Mumbai: BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur on Wednesday said that ‘hijab’ will not be tolerated if they are worn in educational institutions other than madrassas.

The BJP MP said that the hijab is a veil and the veil should be against those who look at you with evil eyes. But it is certain that Hindus do not look at them with evil eyes because they worship women.

Addressing a function at a temple in the Barkheda Pathani area, Thakur said hijab or khajab should be limited to madrasas only and not to other educational institutions.

Lok Sabha BJP MP said that the hijab is used to hide white hair, while the hijab is used to cover the face.

“You have madrassas. We have nothing to do if you wear hijab or apply khijab (hair colour) there (in madrassas). You wear the attire required there and follow their discipline. But if you distort the knowledge and discipline of schools and colleges in the country and start wearing hijab and applying khijab then it will not be tolerated,” Pragya Thakur said.

The BJP leader said that in the ‘gurukul’ the disciples wear ‘saffron’ attire, but when they go to school they wear the uniform as per the norms.

As the hijab-related cases continue to be heard in the Karnataka High Court, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Janendra has warned protesting students to strictly abide by the recent verdict or face action.

“Till now, there was consideration not to hurt students as they are sensitive and it was thought that they are protesting with provocation from outsiders. Abiding by the court order and respecting the constitution is the responsibility of citizens of this country. If this is violated, harsh action will be initiated immediately without any consideration,” the Karnataka minister warned.
