West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Reshuffles Her Cabinet After Lok Sabha Elections

Mumbai: TMC President and Chief Minister of West Bengal recently made some major changes in his cabinet while drubbing her party Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha elections.

Transport Minister Suvendu was handed over to irrigation and water resources investigation and development (WRI & D) departments, he told reporters in the state secretariat.

Banerjee said that Bratya Basu has been given additional charge of Forest Department with its portfolio of science and technology and biotechnology department.

Sujith Bose, Minister of Fire Services, was made Minister of State for Forest Department.

Somen Mahapatra, who was the Minister of Water Resources and Development, was given the charge of Environment and Pollution and Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), he said.

The Malay Ghatak will now oversee the labour and law department, the Chief Minister said. Banerjee said that Rajiv Banerjee, in-charge of the Backward Class Welfare Department, will also oversee the SC, ST and Tribal Affairs Department.

Senior TMC leader Subrata Mukherjee, who was defeated by BJP’s Subhash government at Bankura Lok Sabha seat, was retained as Panchayat Minister. Chandrima Bhattacharya, who was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Housing, was given additional responsibility as the Minister of State for Panchayat Department. He said that former Forest Department Minister Binay Krishna Barman and West Zone Development Minister Shantaram Mahato were kept as ministers without any department.
