Why Did PM Wait For 10 Yrs: Sibal On Women’s Reservation Bill

Mumbai: In response to rumors that the Women’s Reservation Bill may be introduced in Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal slammed the administration on Tuesday.

He questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had waited almost ten years for it and suggested that the 2024 general elections were likely to be the cause.

On Monday, Prahlad Singh Patel, a minister of state, said on social networking site X that the Cabinet had passed the law, but he quickly removed the post.

Though the outcome of the lengthy Cabinet meeting, which lasted more than 90 minutes on Monday evening, remains unknown, there is widespread anticipation that the Women’s Reservation Bill was adopted.

In a post on X, Sibal said, “Women’s Reservation Bill: Wonder why Modi ji, if introduced, waited for almost 10 years when almost all political parties are in support? 2024 is perhaps the reason.”

“But if the government does not provide quota for OBC women BJP may also lose UP in 2024! Think about it!” he said.

Sibal, who served as a Union minister during the UPA 1 and 2 administrations, left the Congress in May of last year and received support from the Samajwadi Party to be elected to the Rajya Sabha as an independent.
