Will Welcome ‘Modi Miracle’ Amid Israel-Hamas War: Ex-Israeli Intel Chief

Mumbai: The former head of Israel’s military intelligence, Major General Amos Yadlin (retd), said Israel would welcome a “Modi miracle” amid the war with Hamas

There is still no indication of peace or even a ceasefire four days into the worst Israel-Hamas confrontation in decades, which has resulted in over 1,600 deaths and over 6,000 injuries.

The former head of Israel’s military intelligence told NDTV that Tel Aviv would welcome a “Modi miracle” amid speculation that India, which negotiated the African Union’s admission to the G20 and the BRICS bloc’s expansion by six nations, could play a significant role in this area.

“Hamas is unwilling to engage in any peace or negotiation. Hamas is a terrorist group (like ISIS), and they are killing women, and children in a very cold way. If Modi can make this miracle (happen)…” Major General Amos Yadlin (retd), said.

While Israel would welcome any attempt by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mediate a ceasefire, the Major General told NDTV this afternoon that Hamas “is not willing for peace.”

“Relations between India and Israel are crucial. These two countries, who gained independence at the same time, have a lot of the same traditions. We are two countries that share a border with enemies; you have Pakistan and China, while we have Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, and Gaza-based terrorists.

“There are many political factors that are similar, and Israel provides significant assistance to India. We are giving weapons that you used to get from Russia. We welcome any attempt by your PM to mediate…”

He added that it was likely due to a number of operational missteps that Israel’s renowned intelligence system was unable to foresee or stop the terrible attack by Hamas. Both the renowned spy organization Mossad and the domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet have been searching for solutions.

“Signals were lost, and sensors were disabled. When questioned why neither agency had taken action in time to prevent what will undoubtedly result in thousands of deaths and billions of dollars in property and infrastructure damage by the time the dust settled, he answered, “The effects were devastating.

He claimed that Israel had been “very effective” in stopping strikes from Hamas.

He claimed, “We have the best anti-rocket system in the world,” but he also recognized that the Palestinians have effectively changed their strategy to thwart Israeli intense digital and physical surveillance.

After Israel declared a “complete siege” of the Gaza Strip on Monday, Hamas this morning threatened Tel Aviv with the execution of “a hostage for every bomb dropped on a Palestinian home”.
