Woman Dragged Off-Road, Gang-Raped In Bushes While Returning From Office In Ghaziabad

Mumbai: A 23-year-old Delhi woman was dragged off-road and gang-raped by three men in bushes while returning from office in Ghaziabad. At the time of the crime, the victim was with a 22-year-old woman, who is her friend and colleague, and the woman’s male friend. While the victim was pulled off the road and raped, her two friends were not attacked by the suspects who fled the spot, police said.

According to police, a FIR was filed on Friday under the Indian Penal Code’s Section 376d (gang rape) against them.

The victim filed a police report stating that she and her friend were scheduled to depart from their place in Delhi’s Sonia Vihar at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Thursday after working at a toy manufacturing facility in Tronica City.

“After we left the factory, my friend was trying her hands on a scooty on the isolated Khanpur Road with her male friend, who had come to teach her to ride her new two-wheeler. I was standing nearby. Soon, three unidentified men came to us, and overpowered and separated us…,” the woman stated in her complaint. The details of the vehicle used by the suspects are not known and is under probe.

Then, according to the victim, one of the three suspects took her off the road, into some bushes, and sexually assaulted her. “The second dude showed up later and molested me as well. The victim claimed that the three men then ran away. “My friend and I were shocked by the incident, so we went home and told our families.”

Later that night, a report was made to the Tronica City police station. According to authorities, the woman was sent for a medical checkup, and her report did not indicate that she had any internal or external injuries.

When police interviewed the victim’s friends as part of their inquiry, they discovered that the man, a Badarpur village resident, had given contradictory accounts. According to the cops, it was also discovered during his interrogation that two other unidentified guys had shown up at the location following the departure of the women, raising the possibility that the crime was planned. The police said that there were no CCTV cameras in the area of the crime scene.

Police said they are now questioning few people in this connection. “The role of the man is being investigated thoroughly and he is being questioned at length. The role and number of suspects apart from the three initial suspects is also being investigated. We have also picked up three men, and the picture of one of them has been identified by the victim. This suspect is also known to the man in question. Their role is being probed thoroughly. We are also probing why the three suspects only attacked the victim,” said Vivek Chandra Yadav, DCP.

According to officers part of the investigation, the male friend came in contact with the victim’s friend one and half months ago, the two women were old friends and neighbours in Delhi.
