Mumbai: A 28-year-old woman from Kutch, Gujarat, committed suicide after killing her two sons in Thane on Sunday. She left behind a suicide note saying she was upset about her child custody battle with her husband.
The Kasarvadavali police have booked the husband for abetment of suicide.
Sitaben married Rajesh Vaviya in 2011. Rajesh and his parents subjected Sitaben to regular physical and emotional attacks, she registered domestic violence cases against them in 2017 and March 2019.
“Sitaben left her husband’s home and returned to her parental home in February this year. Since February they were fighting a custody battle for the children, Lakhsya, five, and Rudra, four. The court granted them shared custody. However, every time they met to hand over the kids, Rajesh would taunt her,” it said.
The complaint also said Rajesh would often try to kidnap the children when they were in the custody of his wife.
According to the police, when her family was out shopping on Sunday, Sitaben called a relative in Kharghar and told him that she was ‘leaving.’ “This relative alerted the family, who rushed back home. They found the house locked from the inside. There was no response to phone calls door knocks,” an official said.
The family then called the police, who broke open the door and found all three hanging from the ceiling.
