17-Yr-Old Girl Trafficked To Mumbai With Promise To Meet SRK Rescued

Mumbai: A 17-year-old girl from West Bengal who was allegedly trafficked to Mumbai with a false promise to meet Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has been rescued by railway policemen.

She was sent to a shelter home while the trafficker, identified as Subhan Shaikh, was arrested.

According to reports, the class 12 student is a resident of Palashipara in West Bengal. Shaikh (43), a resident of Mira Road in Maharashtra, had befriended her through Facebook by pretending to be a young event manager. The 43-year-old had used his son’s picture as a picture of his performance on the social media platform.

After connecting on Facebook, there was a constant conversation between the two. The accused offered the girl’s help to meet Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan at his Bandra residence in Mumbai. He told her that he would take her to Mumbai. However, he knew that the girl would refuse to move to Mumbai when it was revealed that he was not the young man she had been in touch with. So he made up a story. He told her that he got a COVID-19 infection, so his father would take her to Mumbai.

Shaikh reached Palashipara on 15 July. The teenager didn’t suspect anything was wrong. “He picked her up from her coaching class, destroyed the SIM card in her mobile phone so that her location could not be tracked and brought her to Kolkata. From there, they boarded the Howrah Mail for Mumbai,” a report in The Times of India quoted senior inspector Dnyaneshwar Katkar of Dadar GRP as saying.

During this, the parents of the minor girl got furious in search of her. After failing to locate him, they approached the West Bengal Police for help. The police immediately swung into action. All railway stations have been alerted. The girl was caught on CCTV boarding the train from Howrah Junction. Mumbai GRP was informed as CSMT was the last station of the train

“The girl was wearing a mask so we could not see her face. Based on her details, our team stopped her and Sheikh on Sunday. When she took off the mask we were able to verify her identity,” Dadar GRP inspector Avinash Powar told TOI.

After this, the Railway Police rescued the girl and took Sheikh into custody. He was shifted to the shelter home.

On Tuesday, West Bengal Police officials reached Mumbai to take the girl home. His alleged smuggler was also handed over to the West Bengal Police officials for investigation. Sheikh’s intention behind bringing the minor girl to the capital of Maharashtra is yet to be ascertained.
