Mumbai: At least 100 Israeli civilians and soldiers have been taken hostage during the terror attack by Hamas, according to the Israeli Ambassador to the US, adding that over 300 Israelis have been murdered. The attacks, conducted by land, air, and sea, were condemned by leaders from around the world.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, threatened to “turn into rubble all the places where Hamas is based, in this city of evil, all the places Hamas is hiding in, acting from.” Gilad Erdan, the Israeli ambassador to the UN, declared, “This is our 9/11,” in a statement to Fox News on Saturday. “Babies, women, and elderly people were taken hostage and dragged outside of their homes.”
In response to what he called the “terrorist assaults” by Hamas, US President Joe Biden promised “rock solid” support for Israel. According to a Sunday BBC report, Hamas is holding a number of Israeli soldiers and civilians captive in the Gaza Strip.
Lt Col Jonathan Conricus, spokesman for the Israeli military, says that while some captives are proven to be alive, others are assumed to be dead. It is said that the situation is unprecedented, and Hamas claims to have abducted considerably more Israelis than was previously thought. According to reports, these prisoners have been scattered around the Gaza Strip.
There are online films that purport to depict Israeli hostages held by Hamas terrorists. One of the films, which is geolocated in the Gaza Strip, depicts a woman being dragged from the back of a truck while she is barefoot and holding her hands in blood. Israeli military forces have carried out operations beyond the Gaza Strip to release hostages who were Israeli civilians in two southern Israel sites.
