3000 Security Personnel Deployed At Amritsar In A Mark Of 35th Anniversary Of Operation Blue Star

Mumbai: In a wake of the 35th anniversary of Operation Blue Star nearly 3000 security personnel have been allocated in Amritsar to maintain law and order.

Police officials said that Sikh fanatics can cause problems, flag marches are also being organized in many areas and sensitive areas are being monitored through CCTV cameras.

Operation Blue Star was the codename of an Indian military action that was done to remove the terrorist religious leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his followers from the buildings of Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) premises in Amritsar, Punjab between 1 and 8 June 1984.

Police have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the city, including airport, railway station and bypass city. Police said that vehicles coming out from outside to the city are being checked to prevent the entry of any miscreant.

In order to prevent any untoward incident, the SGPC has deployed its task force within the Golden Temple complex. Apart from this, the city has been banned from carrying any weapon including sharp weapons for the next five days.

In the meantime, the police suspect that terrorist organizations – Khalistan Liberation Force – can try to create unrest in Punjab in the wake of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star, while the fundamentalist Sikh organization Dal Khalsa has called a bandh in Amritsar in the Golden Temple Thursday to protest the army’s action.
