4 Dead, Over 30 Missing After Cloudburst In J&K’s Kishtwar; 8 To 9 Houses

Kishtwar: Four people have died and over 30 others are missing following a cloudburst in Honzar village in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar, officials said.

Indian Air Force authorities have been contacted for lifting the injured, officials added.

According to the Indian Army, help was sought for the rescue operation soon after a cloudburst was reported in Honzar village of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Accordingly a party of 1-1-20 under Captain Vivek Chauhan ex-Sondar COB 17 RR has been launched at 7 am. SHO and 07 Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel from Sirsi police station have also been launched,” informed Indian Army.

 

Speaking to ANI, State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Commandant General VK Singh said that the SDRF team has left for the spot on foot along with police personnel.

VK Singh said, “This area is in the upper reaches of Kishtwar, which is not accessible by road. Jammu SDRF is on standby. The weather is bad. A team of SDRF is ready to airlift from Srinagar.”

Since the cloudburst incident from the village, four bodies have been recovered so far and around 30-40 people are missing.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar district, eight-nine houses have been damaged in Honjar village of the district.
