4 Men Get Death Penalty Over 2008 Jaipur Bomb Blasts Which Killed 80 People

Mumbai: In another development, Jaipur court has death sentenced to all four convicts of 2008 bomb blasts in Pink city.

A Jaipur court, which convicted four accused in the case and acquitted one on Wednesday, sentenced Mohammad Saif, Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, Mohammad Salman, and Saif ur Rehman to death.

More than 70 people were killed in the 2008 serial bombings. The Jaipur special court ruled in the case on Wednesday and a day later heard arguments on the quantum of sentence.

Government lawyer Srichand had earlier said, “I have demanded the death penalty for him.”

Srichand described the 2008 serial blasts as the second deadliest incident in the country after the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

After convicting the four convicts, the court acquitted Shahbaz Hussain in the case.

There were seven more accused in the case –  two of them were killed in the Batla House encounter in Delhi in the same year while five others are still on the run.

The Jaipur bombings were a series of nine synchronized bomb blasts that took place on 13 May 2008 within a span of fifteen minutes at locations in Jaipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Rajasthan, and a tourist destination. A tenth bomb was found and defused.

The bombings shocked most of India and resulted in widespread condemnation from leaders across the world with many countries showing solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism.
