4,200 People Evacuated From Kabul In Past 12 Hours: White House

Washington: At least 4,200 people were evacuated from Kabul during a 12-hour period on Friday, White House said. The total number of evacuees from Afghanistan since August 14 has reached around 1,09,200, it added.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has said about 5,400 people are waiting at the airport to take off from Afghanistan.

The US Army Major General said, “About 5,400 people are still waiting at the airport to take off from Afghanistan. We have the capacity to accommodate those evacuated from Afghanistan on a US military airlift out of Afghanistan… ISIS will not deter us from accomplishing this mission.”

Thursday’s bombing of the Abhay Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, which killed 13 US service members and at least 100 Afghans, was “cured”.

Defence officials initially said the second bombing took place outside the Baron Hotel, which is adjacent to the airfield and a key site in efforts to evacuate American and British civilians. Major General Taylor clarified that there was only one explosion at the Abhay Gate at Hamid Karzai International Airport on Thursday.

Earlier, the Pentagon had said there was a second explosion outside the Baron hotel in its initial statements. The death toll from yesterday’s blast in Kabul has surged to more than 90 people killed, CNN reported. The report said that more than 150 people were wounded by the blast.
