500 Million Dollars Approved By ADB For Bangladesh Covid-19 Response

Mumbai: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said on Thursday that it has approved 500 million US dollar loan to Gloucester effects efforts of Bangladesh government to lessen the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

“This package will build on ADB’s ongoing collaboration with Bangladesh on structural reforms by supporting government efforts to speed up the country’s social and economic recovery,” ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa said in a statement.

He said, “We will work closely with the government and development partner to mitigate the economic impact of the pandemic on the poor and most vulnerable, particularly those affected job losses in small and medium enterprises and the informal sector.”

About 2 million families across the country will be given about $23 each and about 1 million poor families will be received for support of 20 kg per month during the pandemic.

Bangladesh government social protection program for senior citizen and women in distress will be expanded to all eligible senior citizens and women in hundred poorest local government unit in the country.

On April 30, ADB approved a 100-million-U.S. dollar concessional loan to support the Bangladeshi government in its efforts to address the immediate public health requirements of combatting COVID-19
