52 New COVID-19 Cases In Pondy, Tally Rises To 40,120

Mumbai: Puducherry saw 52 fresh cases of coronavirus during the 24 hours ending at 10 am on Wednesday, with a total positivity of 40,120. There were no deaths and the toll remained 673.

S Mohan Kumar, director of Health and Family Welfare Services, said 52 new cases were identified at the end of 1290 samples examined.

Whereas for 43 out of 52 new cases in the Puducherry region, Karaikal reported three, Yanam one and Mahe five.

Eighteen cases were discharged from hospitals during the last twenty-four hours. The director said that the death rate and recovery rates were 1.68 per cent and 97.79 per cent respectively.

As many as 6.48 lakh samples were tested so far and of them, 6.02 lakh turned out to be negative. There were 214 active cases while 39,233 people were recovered and were discharged so far, Kumar said.

The Director said that 14,989 health care workers and 5,579 front line workers have been vaccinated so far.

The department has vaccinated 12,035 people in the second phase of coverage, who are either senior citizens or those above 45 years with co-ethics.
