6 Killed, 13 Injured In Massive Fire At Chemical Factory In Andhra’s Eluru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to the bereaved families

Mumbai: At least six people were killed and 13 got injured after a massive fire broke out at a chemical factory in Akkireddigudem in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru.

According to Eluru Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Dev Sharma, the fire broke out due to the leakage of nitric acid and monomethyl at the chemical factory located in the Akkireddygudem area. Sharma told that the treatment of the injured is going on in the government hospital in Vijayawada.

The SP said that there is a possibility of fire in the reactor of the polymer power plant late on Wednesday night.

Expressing grief over the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the next of kin of the dead, Rs 5 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs 2 lakh to those with minor injuries.

The Chief Minister’s Office said that officials have been directed to monitor the health of the injured and the SP and District Collector have been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident.

Andhra Pradesh Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan has also expressed grief over the fire accident at the chemical factory in Eluru and offered condolences to the bereaved families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

“Pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at a chemical unit in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly,” Prime Minister’s Office quoted PM Modi as saying.
