Puri said the number of Indian nationals evacuated did not include those working in the Indian embassy. Talking about the three volumes of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib that were brought to Delhi from Kabul today, Puri said, “It was a very emotional and inspiring experience for me to be able to pay tribute as a Sikh.”

He said, “During the start of the pandemic, in March 2020, when the gurdwara in Kabul was attacked, the central government facilitated 383 Afghan Sikhs to come to India. During the latest developments in Afghanistan, seven evacuation flights were organised,” he added.

Further, Puri said that PM Modi has always extended his shoulder to support the Sikh community in times of crisis, be it in the country or abroad.

“The sevadars (from Afghanistan) have thanked PM Modi and Bharat Mata for being able to provide shelter and comfort to those in distress, especially Hindus and Sikhs,” he said.
