8 Bombs Exploded In Sri Lanka On Sunday, 187 Killed, Government Declared Curfew

Mumbai: The eight serial blasts shook Sri Lanka on Sunday. The first six blasts killed three churches and three luxury hotels in Colombo and other parts of the country, so far 185 people died.

The first explosion was reported around 8 a.m. At about 2 o’clock as the country was still counting its dead, two more blasts were reported in Colombo as security was raised throughout the country and the army was called.

With two more blasts, at least 187 people have been killed so far, while more than 400 other Easter have been injured in the blasts on Sunday morning, local media said.

With this immediate effect, Sri Lanka’s government has declared a curfew. Social media and messaging services have also been suspended in the country after the latest rounds of blasts.

According to the police, the dead included 35 foreigners. It is not known yet that no Indian was injured or killed in the attack.

Media reported that 25 people were killed in an attack on a church in Batiyakola in the eastern province.

“I strongly condemn the cowardly attacks on our people today. I call upon all Sri Lankans during this tragic time to remain united and strong. Please avoid propagating unverified reports and speculation. The government is taking immediate steps to contain this situation,” Sri Lanka PM Ranil Wickremesinghe tweeted.
