FDA Closes Haldiram outlet, As Man Finds Dead Lizard In Wada Sambar

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, Nagpur man found a dead lizard in his food ‘Wada sambhar’ at Haldiram outfit.

The incident took place in the outlet located in Ajani square on Tuesday morning. The picture of the dead lizard became viral on social media and Haldiram got the response to this incident.

Milind Deshpande, Assistant Commissioner of FDA Nagpur, told PTI, “Men of Wardha and a woman accompanying them had ordered Wada Sambar in the outlet. But while eating man got a dead lizard in food.

They brought it to the notice of the supervisor of the outlet, who later threw it away.”

“He was later admitted to a private hospital and was discharged on Wednesday. In the evening, the FDA was told about it, after which we immediately visited the Haldiram outlet and inspected it. We found some drawbacks in the kitchen. Kitchen windows need to be equipped with a net, which was missing,” he further said.

The FDA has closed the outlet until the compliance is completed in accordance with Food Safety and Standards (Food Business License and Registration) Rules 2011. They presented a compliance report for us. We will inspect the premises and if we believe that the steps taken are satisfactory, then we will allow it to open again.

Both neither spoke to the media about the incident nor lodged a complaint with the FDA or the police.
Haldiram outlet of Nagpur has been closed after the incident.
