Aarey Forest Row: Shiv Sena Youth President Aditya Thackeray Defends Govts Mumbai Metro Project

Mumbai: Defending governments decision over Aarey Colony, Shiv Sena youth president Aditya Thackeray has openly opposed the carving in a part of Aare Forest in Mumbai.

Activists have strongly opposed the felling of trees and the issue has divided Mumbai

Speaking at the India Today Conclave 2019 Mumbai, Aditya Thackeray, whose party is a part of the government that built the metro, said the issue was not about “Shiv Sena vs BJP” but “Mumbai vs environmental damage”.

“It is not about the triumph of the ecosystem,” said Thackeray, stating that he was only concerned about the impact the tree harvesting would have on the environment.

Earlier, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis had run the Mumbai Metro project into a dispute over trees that should fall for a car. The plan for one of the upcoming metro lines is proposed to build a car depot at Aare One, Mumbai. The proposal has been opposed by the activists and a huge controversy has arisen.
