Accelerate vaccination Promote COVID-Appropriate Behavior: Centre To States, UTs

Mumbai: Amid the sharp rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the centre has asked states and UTs to expedite immunization for priority groups in the most affected districts, lowering the threshold for gathering in public places, improve testing in districts reporting a reduction in testing and increase the overall share of RT-PCR tests.

The Centre is actively engaged in daily new cases with all the State and Union Territory Governments and with a high caseload of active cases.

It is regularly reviewing the status of COVID-19 and public health measures with states and union territories.

According to the Ministry of Health, approximately 40 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered.

The release stated that States/UTs are advised to contact more than 20 persons on an average for positive treatment in the first 72 hours as well as for minimal treatment of serious cases as per clinical protocol.

Districts and regions with an overdose of COVID-19 cases have been asked to focus on surveillance and tight control.

It has been suggested that states and union territories should also follow up on sending samples for genome testing to track virus variants of concern.

“All states / UTs have been tagged in 10 national laboratories under the INSACOG consortium with the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) as the nodal institution,” the release said.

The Centre has further called for limiting the gathering in public places along with promoting COVID-appropriate behaviour through communication and enforcement and accelerate vaccination for priority population groups in districts reporting higher cases.
