All Schools & Colleges Shut In K’taka For 3 Days Amid Hijab Controversy

“I appeal to all the students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony,” he tweeted.

Commenting on the ‘hijab row’, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “We are waiting for instructions from the Karnataka HC. I appeal to the students to maintain peace and harmony. I have directed the school administration that there should be no conflict b/w students. Appeal to all concerned persons from outside not to make provocative statements.”

CM Bommai also directs concerned authorities to maintain law and order. He further added, “As I speak proceedings in the court are underway. I appeal to each and everyone not to provoke at this time. Congress is just putting false allegations on us. We will abide by the law.”

Protests also took a serious turn at Mandya PES College as hijab-clad students raised slogans of ‘Allah ho Akbar’ and Hindu students chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram.

The hijab controversy also affected IDSG College in Chikmagalur. Students wearing hijab and saffron shawl were stopped at the entrance of Shanteshwar Pre University College in Indi town of Vijayapura district.

After being turned out the students gathered in front of the college and raised slogans. Meanwhile, another group emerged with blue shawls supporting the wearing of hijab by the Muslim students. This led to chaos and police had to rush and control the situation.
