Armed Forces Have Utmost Respect For Human Rights: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat

The Indian Armed Forces not only ensure the protection of the human rights of our own people but also deal with opponents

Mumbai: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said on Friday that the armed forces have the utmost respect for human rights laws and have protected not only the human rights of the people of the country but also its opponents.

“The Indian Armed Forces are highly disciplined and have the utmost respect for human rights laws and international human rights laws. The Indian Armed Forces not only ensure the protection of the human rights of our own people but also deal with opponents and prisoners of war,  according to the Geneva Conventions, “General Rawat was quoted as saying in a statement.

He was addressing trainees and senior officials of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) at the Human Rights Building here on the subject of “Protection of Human Rights and Protection of Prisoners of War.”

He said that “keeping in mind the provisions of human rights law and the importance of protection of human rights, a court of inquiry is now being held after every anti-insurgency operation and all records relating to such actions are maintained.”

“Leaders are not those who lead people in the wrong direction. As we are seeing in a large number of universities and colleges, they are leading crowds of people to commit arson and violence in cities and towns. This is not leadership, ”Rawat said yesterday.
