As Fire Breaks Out In Covid Hospital In Gujarat’s Bharuch; 18 Peoples Died

Mumbai: Welfare Hospital in Bharuch saw 18 deaths after a fire broke out on Saturday. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained while the authorities have launched a probe into the incident.

As per the Times of India reports, there were 50 patients in the hospital. Among that 16 Covid patients and 2 nurses died in the incident.

The fire fighting department rushed to the spot as soon as they were informed about the fire. They managed to rescue a large number of patients from the four-storey building.

However, “The fire was controlled within an hour and patients were rescued by locals as well as firefighters. They were shifted to nearby hospitals”, a fire official said.

“Total 50 persons were in the hospital of whom 32 were rescued while 18 died. The deceased include 16 patients and two nurses,” said R V Chudasma, SP, Bharuch.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief at the incident. “Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Bharuch. Condolences to the bereaved families,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia from the CM relief fund to each kin of the deceased. Two senior IAS officers Vipul Mittra and Raj Kumar Beniwal have been asked to probe the incident.
