Over 16 Crore Covid Vaccine Doses Given To States, UTs For Free: Health Ministry

Mumbai: The Union Health Ministry said that the Center has so far given 16.37 crore doses of Covid vaccine to the states and union territories and they will receive 17 lakh doses in the next 3 days.

As the country’s young population becomes eligible for a vaccination against coronavirus with the start of the third phase of the vaccination campaign, the ministry said that more than 79 lakh vaccine doses are still available for their populations in states and union territories.

The Ministry said that as per the data available till 8 am on Saturday, 16,37,62,300 COVID vaccine supplements have been made available to the States and Union Territories (UTs). Out of 16,37,62,300 COVID vaccines, the total consumption including wastages is 15,58,48,782 doses, the ministry stated.

Maharashtra has the highest number of vaccines after Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Lakshadweep recorded the highest percentage of immunization at 9.76 per cent, followed by 8.83 per cent in Tamil Nadu, 7.70 per cent in Assam, 7.44 per cent in Manipur and 5.72 per cent in Haryana. The highest dose availability is in Uttar Pradesh with a dosage of 12,10,220 doses.

“As was prescribed in the Liberalised and Accelerated Phase-3 Strategy of COVID-19vaccination, all the states and UTs have been intimated by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare regarding the total number of vaccine doses that they would receive as part of the “Government of India channel”, of the vaccine doses totally free of cost for the vaccination of 45 years and above beneficiaries,” read the release.
