As Heavy Traffic Continues In Mumbai, Maha CM Warns Of ‘Stricter Curbs’

Mumbai: Expressing concern over the movement of heavy vehicles in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray warned on Monday that restrictions such as lockdown would be further tightened if such a situation persists.

“I myself cross-checked my speech made last night. I did not say that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted,” Thackeray said.

The Chief Minister said that if such a situation persists, then Mumbai will have to impose more stringent restrictions.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Bhoomipujan of elevated road and vehicles underpass to connect the two metro lines in suburban Bandra to the trial run and the airport.

The Maharashtra government has extended restrictions like lockdown in the state till June 15 and stated that COVID-19 would be exempted based on the positivity rate and availability of oxygen beds.

Thackeray said on Sunday that daily coronavirus cases are decreasing in the state, but this number is close to the peak level of last year. He also asked the people of the state not to disappoint their guards while facing the third wave of the pandemic.

Maharashtra on Sunday recorded 18,600 fresh coronavirus cases, the lowest single-day count in over two months, taking the state’s infection tally to 5,731,815

The state’s COVID death toll rose to 94,844 today with 402 more people succumbing to the viral disease in the last 24 hours, as per the health department’s bulletin.
