Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal Urges Centre To Extend Lockdown

Mumbai: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said that the state has written a letter to the central government requesting an extension of the ongoing bandh since May 18.

Notably, the third phase of the nationwide lockdown is scheduled to end on May 17.

Talking to reporters, he said, “We have sent our written recommendation that we want this lockout to continue. The Indian government will consider it as it is not a step. After recommendations, many steps have to be considered.”

“Assam has also conveyed its views on the relaxations it wants in the fourth phase of the lockdown,” the Chief Minister added.

As of 15 May 2020, the Government of Assam has confirmed a total of 86 positive cases of COVID-19 including 39 recoveries and two deaths in the state
