Atal Bihari Vajpayee Was Set To Sack Gujarat Government After 2002 Post Godhra Riots: Yashwant Sinha

Mumbai: Former late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee was set to dismiss then state CM Narendra Modi at the time after 2002 post-Godhra riots, but this decision was justified because Home Minister LK Advani had threatened to resign from the Cabinet on the issue, said former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha.

While addressing the press conference where he said, “after the communal riots in Gujarat, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had decided that the state’s Chief Minister Narendra Modi should resign. He claimed that at the time of the meeting of the National Executive Committee in Goa in 2002, Atal ji had made up his mind that if Modi refused to resign, then the Gujarat government would be sacked.”

Meanwhile, he also replied to the questions asked on the basis of the ongoing controversy of INS Viraat, as PM Narendra Modi claimed that Rajiv Gandhi has used it as “personal taxi”.

Sinha said, “Lying in this way is not according to the dignity of the prime minister,” adding that while adding Lok Sabha elections, the performance of the Modi government is being fought, not on the history of the country.

Meanwhile, he also accused PM Modi of lowering the language of the political discourse.

Sinha said, “PM is expected to use dignified language but it is not happening.” He said that the future of the country would be decided by the election of Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, and it wanted to go for social harmony or social division.
