IAF Gets First Apache Guardian Attack Helicopter

Mumbai: In a recent development, American Aerospace major Boing has handed over 22 helicopters of the Apache Guardian attack to the Indian Air Force. It comes after three and a half years because a multi-billion dollar deal was sealed for the helicopters.

IAF spokesman Group Captain Anupam Banerjee was quoted by PTI saying, “The first AH-64E (I) – Apache Guardian helicopter was formally handed over to Indian Air Force on May 10 at Boeing Production Facility in Mesa, Arizona, USA.”

He said that the helicopter has been made to suit the future needs of the Air Force and it will have significant capacity in the mountainous areas.

In September 2015, Indian Air Force had signed this multi-billion dollar contract with the US Government and Boeing Limited. According to the report, the first batch of these helicopters will be sent to India in July this year.

“The selected aircrew and ground crew have trained on training facilities in the US Army Fort Fort Rucker, Alabama. These employees will lead the operation of the Apache fleet in the IAF, “the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

The IAF said, “The helicopter has the ability to make precise attacks on deadlock borders and to operate in hostile airspace with threats from the ground.”

It is also said that the capability of these helicopters is a fatal acquisition to transmit and obtain images of the war and to obtain it through data networking from weapon systems

In addition, the Ministry of Defense procured six Apache helicopters from Boeing in 2017 for a military cost of Rs 4,168 crore. This will be the first fleet of attack helicopters.
