Babita Phogat Congratulates Vinesh Phogat For Qualifying Tokyo Olympics

Mumbai: On Wednesday Indian wrestler Babita Phogat congratulated her sister Vinesh Phogat for securing her place in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

She said, “I want to congratulate Vinesh for qualifying in the Olympics”. She also thanked Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju, the wrestling federation of Indian President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar.

In the 53 kg, freestyle event bronze medal Vinesh Phogat defeated two-time world bronze medalist Maria Prevolarki of Greece. She is only the fourth Indian woman wrestler to win a medal in the prestigious tournament.

Babita further said, “I want to thanks sports minister and also the president of wrestling federation India Brij Bhushan Singh as he has taken wrestling to new heights. I also want to thank our chief minister, so I want to thank all of them to encourage sports.”

Vinesh Phogat qualified for the 2020 Olympic in Tokyo after an impressive 8-2 win against Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA in the ongoing world wrestling championship. With this wrestling, Vinesh Phogat becomes the first Indian wrestler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic in the 53kg category.

In 2018 Asian games she clinched a gold medal in 50kg category. Vinesh backed so many gold medals in Commonwealth games.

Meanwhile, India’s Pooja Dhanda lost the semi-final of the 59 kg freestyle event to Russia’s Liubov Ovcharova 10-0. The bronze medallist from last year’s world meet will now battle for a bronze medal later this week.
