BEST Strike Enters In Day 5, DK Jain To Meet Union Leaders Today

Mumbai : The strike from the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport was never over, because it entered the fifth day on a continuous basis despite the order from Bombay High Court to resolve the issue. Earlier, BEST union workers were advised to “take the first step” in resolving their dispute with state and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Meeting to be held today were Maharashtra Chief Secretary DK Jain will met with union leaders in order to put an end to the longest bus strike in Mumbai.  BEST’s General Manager Surendkumar Bagde, Secretary of Transport and Urban Development Department, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta, and leaders of the other union, are expected to meet the State Government officials at 11 a.m.

On Friday, after the Bombay Court order DK Jain met with secretaries of the transport and urban development departments and the general manager of BEST to resolve the issue.

Nearly 32,000 BEST employee took part in strike which demands higher salaries, revision of pay scale for junior employees and merger of the budget of the loss-making BEST with that of the BMC.

The strike has caused inconvenience to over 50 lakh commuters in the city. In addition, over 3,700 BEST buses have gone off the road and the BEST has incurred a loss to the tune of over 12 crores so far.
