Bihar COVID19 Surge: 500 Doctors, Health Workers Tests Positive At Patna Hospital

Mumbai: The ongoing second wave of COVID-19 has crippled health services in the country, compared to the first coronavirus wave in the country, not only ordinary people but also health workers have been badly affected.

In one such development, it is revealed that more than 500 doctors and health workers have tested positive for COVID-19 disease in two large hospitals in Patna, Bihar’s capital. These are two hospitals: AIIMS and Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

AIIMS Medical Superintendent Patna CM Singh was quoted as saying by PTI that a total of 384 employees, including doctors, nurses and sanitation workers, have contracted COVID-19 during the second wave.

In PMCH, Superintendent Dr According to Indu Shekhar Thakur said, more than 125 employees have been infected by the disease that is being destroyed worldwide since January last year. Of these, 70 are doctors while more than 55 are nurses and other health workers.

In Patna, AIIMS and PMCH are among the leading hospitals in the state, where a large number of COVID-19 patients are being treated besides Nalanda Medical College and Hospital.

The PMCH has made arrangements for its infected employees and they are being kept in isolation places.

Meanwhile the state yesterday reported a total of 12,222 new cases of the disease along with 56 fatalities.

Bihar now has a total of 3,54,281 COVID-19 cases with 1,897 deaths. There are 63,745 active cases of coronavirus in Bihar currently.
