Black Fungus Declared ‘Notified Disease’ In Haryana: Anil Vij

Mumbai: Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has said that mucormycosis or ‘black fungus’ has now been declared a notified disease in the state.

Under this, doctors will now report any black fungus case they detect to the CMOs of districts.

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that senior doctors of Post Graduate Institute Rohtak will hold video conferences with all the doctors who are treating COVID infected patients and discuss the treatment of mucormycosis or black fungus.

Last year too, there were cases of black fungus from across the country and some people lost their lives due to mucormycosis.

Mucormycosis is a fungal infection caused by COVID-19. Black fungus or mucormycosis has long been the cause of disease and death of patients in transplant, ICU and immunodeficiency patients.

The government stated in its advice that it is a fungal infection that primarily affects people who are on medication that reduces their ability to fight environmental pathogens, informing them that the infection might turn fatal if not provided proper treatment.

With a number of mucormycosis cases detected in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, experts in the national Covid-19 task force on Sunday issued an evidence-based advisory on the disease.
