BMC Receives 99,000 Doses Of Covishield Vaccine From Centre

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday said that it has received 99,000 doses of Covishield vaccine from the Centre. BMC said the vaccines will be distributed to the civic and government-run vaccine centres across Mumbai.

The BMC said yesterday that the vaccination campaign in Mumbai would only take place from April 10 to 11 in government and civic centres and not in any private hospital where it would resume after vaccination.

“On April 10, vaccination will take place in government and civic centres between noon and 6 am, and it will be between 9 am and 5 pm on April 11. Citizens eligible for vaccination can travel to centres during curfew on medical grounds,” the BMC had said on Friday.

BMC Executive Health Officer Mangala Gomate told news agency PTI yesterday that the city was expected to receive around 1.8 lakh doses of COVID vaccines.

The lack of vaccination forced about 90 vaccination centres, including 71 private facilities, to close the drive on Friday.

As a result, only 25,474 doses, including 2,854-second doses, can be administered tomorrow at various centres. The number of vaccine doses taken so far in the city reached 16,14,278, including 1,82,308 second doses as of Friday.
