Chandrayaan-3 Set To Land On Moon At Around 6.04 pm On August 23, Says ISRO

Mumbai: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday stated that Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on Moon at around 6.04 pm on August 23.

“Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on August 23, 2023, around 18:04 Hrs. IST. Thanks for the wishes and positivity! Let’s continue experiencing the journey together,” Isro announced on X (formerly Twitter).

The spacecraft is currently three days away from reaching the south pole of the moon, its intended target. After the United States, Russia, and China, India will become just the fourth nation in the world to successfully perform a soft landing on the moon.

On August 23, at 5:27 p.m., the landing will be streamed on the Isro website, its YouTube page, Facebook, and public television station DD National TV.

Earlier on August 20, the ISRO completed the Lander Module’s second and last dee-bost, shrinking it to 25 km x 134 km.

“Chandrayaan-3 Mission: The second and final deboosting operation has successfully reduced the LM orbit to 25 km x 134 km,” said the ISRO after the dee-bost of the Lander Module.

The module would go through internal inspections and wait for sunrise at the planned landing spot, according to the ISRO.

The initial deboosting operation by the ISRO, which decreased its orbit to 113 km x 157 km, was completed successfully on August 18. This was done the day after the lander module’s 34-day voyage to the Moon’s surface ended and it became independent from the propulsion module.
