Chhota Rajan Gets 8-Year Jail Term In Murder-Bid Case

Mumbai: In 2012, a Mumbai court sentenced gangster Chhota Rajan and five others to eight years of rigorous imprisonment in a murder attempt case lodged against them by a hotelier.

Earlier today, the court convicted Chhota Rajan and five others under the Arms Act. The court granted the quantum of sentence in the afternoon.

Special court judge AT Wankhede convicted the six under the stringent Maharashtra Crime Control Act (MCOCA) and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on each accused.

Hotelier BR Shetty was shot in suburban Andheri when he was visiting his friend in October 2012.

Rajan is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Indonesia and is lodged following his arrest in India on October 2015 and subsequent deportation to India.

Apart from a prison sentence, the court has also asked the underworld don to pay a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
