Children Who Lost Parents To COVID-19 To Get ₹4,000 Per Month: PM Modi

Mumbai: PM Narendra Modi on Monday announced that children who lost their parents to COVID-19 will be provided ₹4,000 monthly through various schemes to meet their daily requirements.

Releasing the benefits under the PM CARES for Children scheme, PM Modi transferred scholarships to the schoolchildren and handed over a passbook of PM Cares for children, and a health card under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

PM Cares for Children scheme was launched on May 29, 2021, to assist children who have taken both their parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parents during the period of March 11, 2020.

“I know how difficult the situation is for people who have lost their family members during the COVID-19 pandemic. This program is for children who have lost their parents during the pandemic. PM Cares for Children scheme is an effort for such children,” Modi said in the video conference.

Modi said that if anyone needs an education loan for vocational courses or higher education, then PM-CARES will help in that too. A provision of ₹4,000 per month has also been made for them through other schemes for other daily needs.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the objective of the scheme is to ensure comprehensive care and protection of children by providing them boarding and lodging, empowering them through education and scholarships, and equipping them for self-sufficient existence with the financial support of ₹10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age and ensuring their wellbeing through health insurance.

An online portal was launched by the government for the registration of children. The portal is a single-window system that facilitates the approval process and all other support for the children.

“When such children complete their schooling, more money will be required for future dreams. For this youth in the age group of 18-23 years will get a stipend every month and on attaining the age of 23 years will get 10 lakh rupees,” Modi added.

Children are also being given Ayushman Health Card through the PM Cares for Children. From this, free facility of treatment up to ₹5 lakh will also be available, he said.

“PM CARES Fund helped a lot in preparing hospitals, procuring ventilators and setting up oxygen plants during the pandemic. This could have saved many lives. Those who left us untimely, today this fund is being used for their children, for the future of all of you,” he added.
