Mumbai: Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobade has recommended the Central Government to appoint the senior-most Supreme Court Judge NV Raman as his successor and the 48th CJI as per the convention.
The CJI wrote a letter to the Law Ministry in this regard.
On Friday, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad wrote to CJI Bobde and recommended his successor.
According to the convention, the CJI is required to formally send a request to the effect that it be sent to the office at least one month in advance.
CJI Bobde is scheduled to retire on 23 April.
If Justice Raman’s name is approved as the next CJI, he will have a tenure of one year and four months to serve until August 26, 2022.
