Congress Party Seeks Joint Parliamentary Committee Over Rafale Aircraft Deal

Mumbai: After Supreme Court announced its verdict over Rafale deal, congress said SC’s verdict in the Rafale case was not a “clean chit” to the government and again raised its demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the issue.

In a statement, party leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Jayveer Shergill said the verdict paved the way for a “comprehensive criminal investigation”.

“The Supreme Court verdict is not a ‘clean chit’ but paves the way for a ‘full investigation’. The layers of corruption in the Rafale scam can only be answered through a factless impartial JPC probe,” the statement said.

It said the Supreme Court’s decision also reaffirmed the Congress’ stance that the court has’ limited jurisdiction under Article 32 of the Constitution ‘and that it “issues of contractual corruption, the malicious surge in prices, changed specifics” Not a proper platform for. “, Violation of mandatory provisions of crony capitalism and defence procurement process ”.

Referring to the verdict, the statement said, “Independent agencies or police / CBI were equipped to enforce all forms of investigation and such restrictions and limitations, as in the court case, applicable to them.” it happens”.

The party said, “The court’s decision in the Rafale case will not be in favour of the investigating agency and action will be taken.”

“Otherwise, it would prove beyond doubt that the BJP government is not corruption-free and really wants to remain investigative-free,” he said.

The party said that the Rafale fighter jet deal would continue to be questioned for “corruption, collusion and the stench of crony capitalism, hurting national interests”.

The party has been demanding a JPC probe into the Rafale deal.

The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the review petitions challenging its verdict in the Rafale case passed on December 14, 2018, upholding the deal to purchase 36 Rafale jets from France.
