Mumbai: The Congress on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s order setting up an expert committee on the Pegasus spyware issue, saying it has rejected the government’s alleged attempts to divert attention and attention in the name of national security.
“Pseudo-Nationalism is the last refuge of cowardly fascists everywhere,” Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter.

The Supreme Court has appointed a three-member panel of experts to investigate the alleged use of the Israeli spyware Pegasus to monitor certain people, saying every citizen needs to be protected from privacy violations. The court was hearing petitions seeking an independent investigation into reports of alleged spying by government agencies on eminent citizens, politicians and writers using Pegasus
An international media consortium had reported that over 300 verified Indian mobile phone numbers were on the list of potential targets for surveillance using Pegasus spyware.
