Could’ve Done Better With Bowling, RCB’s 181 Was 15-20 Extra Runs: KL Rahul

Mumbai: LSG captain KL Rahul said they could’ve done better as they lost by 18 runs against RCB on Tuesday.

Faf du Plessis’s 96-run knock and Josh Hazlewood’s four-wicket haul helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs here at the Dr DY Patil Stadium.

“I think we started really well, taking 2 wickets in the first over and then conceding 50 runs in the powerplay, we could have done better. With 180 to 15-20 runs extra on that pitch, we really took the middle. And even with the squeezed bat we needed to get into one of the top three and got other batsmen to bat around and unfortunately we couldn’t do that. We have a really good team, very happy with how we are playing, yes a couple of games we could have done better,” said KL Rahul in a postmatch presentation.

He said, ‘I think we started well against Rajasthan and here also we kept them under pressure but we did not last long. Everyone did well and everyone is looking in good form and everyone has scored runs for us. Important that one or two guys who have a good day they need to dig in and take the team through,” he added.

Chasing 182 runs, Lucknow Super Giants did not have a good start as they dismissed Josh Hazlewood in the third over and dismissed their wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock for 3 runs. Hazlewood struck again as Lucknow lost their second wicket for 6 runs as Manish Pandey left LSG at 33/2.

Krunal Pandya and captain KL Rahul batted well to take their team past 50 runs in the seventh over. Lucknow suffered the biggest blow when they lost in-form captain KL Rahul as Harhal Patel dismissed him for 30 off 24 balls.

Deepak Hooda joined Krunal Pandya in the middle and the duo helped Lucknow cross the 100-run mark in 12.2 overs.

On the next ball, Hooda was dismissed for 13 by Mohammad Siraj. In the next over they lost Kunal Pandya who played a brilliant innings of 42 off 28 balls as LSG lost their half for 108 runs.

Hazlewood took his third wicket of the match by dismissing Aayush Badoni for 13 as Lucknow were in trouble at 135/6. Marcus Stoinis kept his side in the hunt with his powerful blows. But Hazlewood cleaned up the hopes of a comeback from LSG.

Jason Holder hit some lusty blows to take his team’s total beyond the 150-run mark. Harshal Patel dismissed Holder to take his second wicket of the match as Lucknow Super Giants lost the match by 18 runs.
