COVID19: Platform Tickets’ Sale Stopped At 6 Mumbai Stations

Mumbai: In view of COVID-19, Central Railway has stopped the sale of platform tickets at its six long-distance train stations, including the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), to prevent unnecessary congestion.

According to Shivaji Sutar, the chief spokesperson of the Central Railway, platform tickets will not be issued at CSMT, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Thane, Kalyan, Dadar and Panvel stations.

“The decision has been taken to avoid unnecessary crowding and ensuring social distancing at stations during the current summer rush,” said Sutar.

In March, the CR had increased the price of platform tickets to Rs 50 from Rs 10 at some stations in Maharashtra.

On Thursday, Mumbai reported 8,938 new COVID-19 cases, with a budgeted figure of 4,91,698. According to the updated figures of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the death toll has risen to 11,874.

Mumbai recorded 10,428 new COVID-19 cases and 23 deaths on Wednesday and 10,030 infections and 31 deaths on Tuesday.

The BMC said that the COVID-19 recovery rate in the financial capital has dipped to 80 per cent, and the overall infection growth rate has risen to 2.03 per cent.

Presently, Mumbai has 71 active containment zones, in slums and chawls, and 750 sealed buildings.
